Spoon Sweets
Spoon sweets are a traditional offering in Greek homes. Each family would naturally preserve their home-grown fruit and serve it to guests on a spoon with a tall glass of water. Spoon sweets are also great as toppings over Greek yoghurt, ice cream or cheesecake to name a few ideas.
Fruit preserves have been a long standing tradition in Greece. High quality fresh fruits are gently boiled and then preserved in sugar, which allows them to retain the color, aroma, and taste of the fruit. They are commonly known as "spoon sweets" due to the traditional way of serving the sweets on a teaspoon accompanied by cold water. Nowadays they are used as healthy spreads, in baked goods, and to top ice cream, cakes, and yogurt.
